Taking the torch:
Documentary series gives voice to new generation of Canadian
aboriginals
VANCOUVER—A
13-part documentary series by Vancouver aboriginal filmmaker
Brenda Chambers, one of Canada’s recent Top-40, Under-40
tm entrepreneurs, starts airing on Saturday, Oct 4. This crossover
series examines a new generation of Canadian aboriginals who
are helping determine the outcome of critical national issues:
dwindling resources, aboriginal self-governance, education,
employment and commerce, and health.
Shot on location
across the country, the fourth season of Venturing Forth is
the first documentary series devoted entirely to aboriginal
youth. It features young aboriginal politicians, activists,
entrepreneurs, teachers and writers making their way in the
world and blazing a trail for future generations.
Statistics show aboriginal
youth are the fastest growing population in Canada. “They
are a large and valuable resource for all Canadians,”
says Chambers. “This series documents Canada’s future
leaders in every field of endeavor—the arts, education,
business and politics.”
The series will air
on APTN-Aboriginal Peoples Television Network on Saturday, Oct.
4, at 5 pm Eastern/2 pm Pacific and repeats Sundays at midnight
Eastern/9 pm Pacific.
Chambers, 40, a member
of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nation in the Yukon, is
president of Vancouver-based Brenco Media Inc., an independent
video and television production company.
