New TV Documentary Series Explores Increasing Aboriginal Participation
in Canada's Resource Industries

KELOWNA — A 13-part documentary series by aboriginal filmmaker Brenda
Chambers, one of Canada’s recent Top-40, Under-40 entrepreneurs, goes to air today on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network.

The series features First Nations entrepreneurs and businesses as they develop sustainable economies and opportunities for local training and employment.

Each episode in this crossover series explores a particular example of
aboriginal participation in Canada's natural resource industries. Topics such as oil and gas, forestry, fishing and eco and cultural tourism are investigated in depth.

The first episode features Chief Liz Logan from Fort Nelson, B.C. as
she works to get an oil rig up and running, providing training and employment opportunities for members of her First Nation.

In another, the Little Shuswap Indian Band takes advantage of its location and shares its culture with guests of the band-owned Quaaout Resort and Conference Centre. The resort draws tourists from around the world who enjoy gourmet cuisine and learn about the culture of their hosts.

Shot on location across Canada, the fifth season of Venturing Forth is the first documentary magazine series devoted entirely to aboriginal business.

Chambers, 41, a member of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nation in Yukon, is president of Vancouver-based Brenco Media Inc., an independent television-and-video production company.

She was one of two Canadians to receive a Global Indigenous Entrepreneur Award from the first annual World Summit of Indigenous Entrepreneurs (WSIE), held in Toronto in 2003. She received the Innovation Award for her groundbreaking work in the Canadian broadcasting industry.

In 2002, she also received a prestigious "Top 40, Under 40
Award" ™ sponsored by the Globe & Mail.

Venturing Forth Season Five airs on APTN starting tonight and can be seen every Wednesday for the next 12 weeks, at 12:30PM ET and 9:30AM PT with repeats at 11:30 PM and ET/8:30PM PT and again the following Saturday at 12:30PM ET and 9:30AM PT.
